Assessment of seedling salinity tolerance of Bangladeshi coastal rice landraces using morpho-physiological stress indices

Salt stress has detrimental effects on the growth and development of rice seedlings. In present study we assessed salt-responsiveness three coastal landraces namely Nona-morchi, Kalihytta Nara. We conducted two factors pot trial that included five genotypes (three candidates landraces, Binadhan-10 as tolerant check BRRI dhan48 sensitive check) against salinity levels e.g., control (tap water), 6 12 dSm-1 sodium chloride. Study revealed that, at salinity, showed lowest reduction in shoot length (14.62%), fresh weight (30.04%) dry (33.71%) which was followed by Kalihytta, Nara dhan48. Two tolerance indices relative water content (RWC) electrolyte leakage (EL), also support salt-induced responses these genotypes. At highest level (12 dSm-1), RWC observed Nona-morchi (8.20%) is by
 (11.38%), (38.93%), (36.30%) (36.51%). And, EL increased (40.06%) (22.06%), (21.12%), (8.64%) (5.87%) compared with their respective controls.
